I think we have learned that you want to be able to control your own destiny, and as you go through the season you have to realize that December, January and February are just as important as the games down the stretch.

I don't even think our guys were playing specifically for the playoffs. They were playing this way because they were tired of losing. And they knew they were better than they were playing.

We've got to stop talking about just making the playoffs. These are the kinds of steps you have to go through to eventually win a championship. That's something we want to do someday, not just make the playoffs.

He's not our best player yet. You expect your best player to win you 25 games.

Dwight has to commit to his teammates that he's going to be a better free-throw shooter. It's a little difficult when you go to a guy for 3 1/2 quarters and then, down the stretch, you can't because he's not making foul shots.

When we hired Brian, there were specific reasons -- like his attention to detail, his knowledge of the game, his ability to teach. And those are the same reasons we've turned it around. We've got the right guy.

I've seen coaches lose players many times when things go badly. That didn't happen here. He wouldn't let anyone quit. And the attention to details he had when we were losing paid dividends when we started winning.

We've had a conversation, but whether we're going to extend him based on 30 games or not, I'm not sure yet. We'll continue conversations and evaluate it, and if it makes sense and it's something we want to do from a numbers standpoint, we'll do it. But if we can't keep the numbers down, we won't engage it.

I still think we need a physical presence inside. We've got length, but not enough girth inside. We need some bodies there. You can argue whether or not we need another shooter, somebody who can knock down consistent shots coming off screens. Those are the areas of concern.

His free throws have to be a top priority because you can't spend 31/2 quarters going into a guy, and then in the fourth quarter when the game is on the line, you're going somewhere else.

It's been a hard and stressful adjustment on everyone. But it was my family, and they had nowhere to go. One of the fun parts though will be getting to see my nephew play for his senior year. I've heard from family members how good he is, but now I'll see firsthand.

It looks like we're going to get that done,

He practiced all the way through, and that's a first. So it's a good sign. He's got a chance (to be ready for the regular-season opener).

The guys are putting in the time and it's a great sign that so many of them are already in working well together. I think we are a playoff team. I think we have a pretty good chance. I like where we're going and I really like the pieces that we have.
