I would imagine the situation will resolve itself naturally, that's what normally happens. It's not a case of switching off life support.

Well, we don't expect him to look pink and wonderful, do we?

He can't survive day after day after day without some improvement occurring. He's keeping himself alive.

His brain is active, his pupils are reactive, ... We are not keeping people alive that aren't alive and we certainly wouldn't do that.

I'm not confident about a recovery, I've never said I'm confident about a recovery because he is so generally ill and can be affected so easily by any infection, any setback. But he is better than he was yesterday.

It's another shade of improvement,

I don't want to give you the impression that we're jumping with joy or he's definitely going to recover. It's just a step in the right direction.

While the brain is working, you go on trying, ... Life depends on the brain function and that is still working. He's just desperately ill man in (intensive care) and we struggle on.

He remains very ill, there is a bit more of a problem with bleeding than we had before,

We did have it some weeks ago - it seems to be coming back to some degree again, the loss of blood, which is a worry.

He's a tremendous fighter, unbelievable, ... None of us I think have seen anybody come through so many serious complications as he's had. He must be a very strong person inside it all.

When you've had several infections as he's had, the liver takes a beating . . . and we do need it to recover a fair amount for him generally to recover, ... It's very difficult to assess at the moment.

I have to tell you that his hours are numbered now. It is just not possible to recover.

I am afraid that he could die at any time over the next 24 hours, ... I would be very surprised if he survived another 24 hours.

There is really no return from that situation. I can't be precise as to the time, but it is the final stages of this illness.
