(Greenspan) cut rates three times last year, but he said that the conditions that required those cuts are no longer with us. So the outside limit to what he is going to do is three hikes. My guess is that you will only end up with a couple of them, a quarter-point at the end of this month, one in August, and maybe one in October.

[The numbers] confirmed the existing pattern of very strong growth with virtually no inflation. They make the Fed look better by tightening a notch but then moving to a neutral bias.

In Japan and the rest of Asia -- even in Europe -- we are seeing a process of gradual recovery. That is bad news for the dollar and it has started the dollar down. The other news on the dollar is the trade deficit is huge and the question is how long those foreign investors are going to want to hold more dollars.

Nothing in these numbers would change the outlook for Fed policy, which is to tighten credit and to try to encourage market conditions that would slow growth to a more sustainable pace this year. The report leaves the Fed on track for a quarter-point hike in February, but there isn't the kind of urgency to warrant a 50 basis point hike.

It is a Microsoft market today. People have had the weekend to think about the government's plan to break it up. We're still looking at a strong economy and there's room for some buying - at least today, bulls are back.
