en This event could not have come at a worse time for the economy. We were already flirting with recession.

en War is never good for the people we're asking to serve, nor for their families. For the economy, war can be good for getting you out of recession, but the requirement to keep spending after you're out of the recession is inflationary and not good for the economy.

en While we're still skating on the edge of recession, I think the outlook for the economy is now quite encouraging. We may not feel great right now, but if a recession is a nasty case of the flu, the good news is that all we're suffering now is just a really bad cold.

en The economy is in recession. The manufacturing recession began more than a year ago. The non-manufacturing recession began more recently. But the contraction has begun.
