I do think Mike has the personality to hang in there in tough times, and (understands) we're headed in a direction to reach a goal. We might take two steps forward and one step back, but it's important to keep taking those two steps.

When you draft a player you draft a human being and you get to know these guys and you know how passionate they are and how badly they want to play. It tugs on you pretty hard. It's probably one of the toughest things I've had on the job.

So, again, draft decisions are based on what's best long-term for the organization, so it doesn't have an effect on what we're going to do.

It's an investment in the future and I don't think you can look at it from a short-term point of view. You have to look at it from a long-term point of view.

He's reached a certain position in this game. He's trying to make this decision and trying to do it in the best way he can for him and his family. You wish we could've had it earlier. We'd like to know, but I'm sure he'd like to know.

There's no reluctance on our part. We do try to make certain that what we do is not just fantasy football. We're investing in a player that's got to come in and play a particular role. If we don't think that player can perform to that contract, then it doesn't make sense for us to do it just to say, 'Look what we've spent.

If that means moving up, that's fine. If that means moving back, that's fine.

You look at it from a long-term view and say, what's best for the organization over a long haul?
