I remember being at Nebraska, we were down by 20 points at halftime. We came back because they couldn't hold the ball.

We had some tough times those couple years. Then finally we put it all together once again. That was great because it was hard to take those next two years.

The reason for that was, the season before I got there, it was the first year freshmen could play. All those stats that had been collected, those people had been playing for three years.

I was the first to go four years of playing varsity basketball. That's what it comes down to.

That's something very special to me. I remember one game they announced the player ahead of me and the crowd just exploded. I swear I moved a foot on the bench.

My freshman year I played all point guard. After that I played four different positions because players got sick or injured. Someone did tell me once they saw me playing center my sophomore year.

The word was that I was going to be drafted by Golden State. But that just didn't happen. So I tried out for a free agent team which I made.

I looked around and there were about 2,000,000 other guys there it seemed. So I said yes.

My role changed. I was the play-maker again. In college I usually had the toughest defensive assignments. I was back to scoring 20 points a game so it was fun.

It reminded me of my senior year at Leavenworth. I was the go-to-guy there too.

I really enjoyed that. It had been so long. It was 27 years. There were some players from Leavenworth that played football there but not basketball.

If we played on Friday night then on Saturday morning we'd get together at coach's house. His wife would make us breakfast and we'd watch film. I don't think anyone had done that before. Beta had just come out.

Against Notre Dame, we had just gotten through playing our league and had gotten used to that clock. They went to a four-corner offense. Four guys would spread out to about the out-of-bounds line and one guy would get the ball in the middle and dribble around and pass or drive to the basket or shoot.

I grew up with Wayne's father. We played against each other on the playground.
