After my junior year coach Zacher came to me and said 'I was talking to the coaches at KU and they said they were interested in you.

As I started doing really well, some college coaches started to notice me. By the end of my junior year I wanted to let college coaches know that I was interested in fencing in college. Penn was the perfect fit for me.

I want people to know that I'm not in the business of training people myself. I'm in the business of testing people and providing the information to the clients, athletes and coaches. The coaches can still coach and the trainers at the gym can still train. I'm not interested in taking that away from them. I'm interested in giving them more information so that they can do their job better.

They always have a label for you, ... When I came out of junior, I was a 'junior coach.' When I came out of college, I was a 'college coach.' Then when I made it to the NHL, I was a 'minor-league coach.' And now I'm a 'defensive coach.'

When the BC job came open I was interested. I knew the program and its history of coaches from both as a player and a coach. I thought I could leave my mark here and I always felt BC could be more consistent in having its coach. BC was going through a cleansing period and I think I needed one, too.

When I look at Coach Knight and Pat and obviously Coach Sutton and Sean, I mean, you're talking about two guys that have grown up at the feet of two of the greatest coaches ever. It's just a natural progression.

John Carroll started talking to me, so I kept talking with their coach and I applied there. The coach said, 'I want you over here next year.' It's a smaller program with high academics and a good wrestling program. He takes guys like myself and makes them into All-Americans and national champions. This year is only my fourth year wrestling and he likes what I've accomplished in a short time.

Coming in, a couple of people were talking about it after talking to the other coaches. All of our coaches are weights coaches, and they kind of relayed it to everybody and let us know what was going on. Annie took a lot of time to be informed about programs she was interested in, and looked closely at the program's record of success, in addition to the academic offerings. Annie learned to respectfully communicate her interests or lack of interest to the many coaches who called her starting after her junior year last July. The experience was enlightening, and Annie had a good ability to control the situation and express her needs.

When people knew we were starting a franchise they started calling us. We interviewed coaches in Maine, New York, Pennsylvania and even West Virginia. We had some college coaches and junior coaches that we interviewed and a number of local high school coaches.

Ron is one of the bright young coaches in the United States. He's done an excellent job as a head coach in our National Team Development Program over the last two years and we know our National Junior Team will be in more than capable hands with Ron as head coach.

I think from talking to a lot of coaches, I'd say there's a pretty good chance of three going and a possibility of four. Just from talking to coaches. But you've had a lot of coaches say they would vote for five. Whether five could make it would be tough. Even if four makes it -- even three -- when you don't have any of them voted in by the fans, that's pretty unbelievable.

There was a lot of talk about a couple of coaches leaving, and if they were I was at least interested in talking about and seeing if it would make sense. When Bob got hired I told him the same thing.

He didn't really give a reason why he was stepping down. He did it for a number of years, and I think he was just ready to move on. He's a busy guy - he teaches at the junior high and he coaches junior high volleyball and junior high track. I think he was ready for a break.

Just remember to show some compassion. When you talk about firing a coach, you're not talking about how it affects one man. You're talking about how it impacts 14 families — the family of every assistant coach. You're talking about 30, 40, 50 people and a lot of them are children.
