Since becoming AD on Dec. 1, I have talked to countless coaches, commissioners, administrators and other experts around the college basketball world. The one name that constantly came up in these discussions was Mick Cronin.

I respect confidentiality. I'm not going to comment on other people's search. Our search continues to move forward.

I said I was going to look at the total quality of the work. I felt Mick was the best fit for the job.

The timing of this action, with our team battling for a trip to the NIT final four, is incredibly unfortunate. I am very disappointed in how this affects the student-athletes, our coaching staff, the university and our fans.

At this point, I don't have a short list. As we sit here today, the process is wide open.

(When we hired a search firm) folks automatically assumed that we were at first base, and that couldn't be further from the truth. We're rounding third base.

It was a decision that was wrong, and I'll take the blame for that.

That process starts today with the naming of a new coach. I've always told people I'm a real relationships person. When I started on December 1, there was no honeymoon. There was no hall pass. I hit the ground running. I really didn't have the opportunity to cultivate relationships.

My focus would be to continue to build the confidence of our fan base.

It felt good to be back on the field and to get a chance to work out the kinks. It was good to be out there catching balls and running routes. There was some good and bad. We were getting the springtime fire out there. For the most part, I think the intensity level of everybody was high.

The message is 'Don't make serious points because you may end up being punished.

We have to get there, but we should be on our way (to the title game). There's other good teams up there, but we should have a good shot.

We can take the bragging rights out of spring. We were able to come out and move the ball and get things done.

It will be very hectic these next few weeks especially with the repairs we have to make to the cars. We have a very full schedule but our crew is ready for it and we are looking forward to being back in Grand-Am Cup racing.

It was very organized. It had good details on every one of the kids. He was very thorough. I was very impressed.
