en That process starts today with the naming of a new coach. I've always told people I'm a real relationships person. When I started on December 1, there was no honeymoon. There was no hall pass. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. I hit the ground running. I really didn't have the opportunity to cultivate relationships.

en You sometimes lost sight of the fact that you were actually doing a movie. It started to become more about the relationships, the real relationships,

en When you get that opportunity to be a head coach, you have a list of people you've worked with. I wanted to give him the chance to pick those people with whom he had relationships. I didn't want to get in his way.

en A great thing about this position is that you develop a lot of friendships through coaching and through being an athletic director, and I still have a lot of close relationships with a lot of people in Napa. I've met some great people that I still keep in contact with. I still maintain relationships with people, even in Southern California, that I used to work with and coach with down there.

en I've been in other relationships since Paul. He's been a big part of my life, and he's a very good friend now. But the songs are informed by all my relationships. There are certain lines that are directly about one person or situation, so directly that I'm sure those people recognize it. And that may be why I do this, to get my point across — though not in a mean way.
