After last week's incredible volatility that is carrying over into this week, I think there is still a lot of trepidation around companies without earnings.

It was quite a roller-coaster ride...and quite a mixed picture,

I think investors are somewhat confused, we're getting all kinds of conflicting signals from bonds and from quantity prices, and given the fact that valuations are so high I think there's a lot trepidation.

I think you can make a case that it was led by a turnaround by the technology sector in the U.S.,

After about a two-week lull we'll get back to business this week, ... We've had a few signs that the economy is losing some momentum and these reports will help indicate whether that's really the case.

What's interesting is that there's a real split between present expectations and the future. Consumers still view their present situation as exceptionally good, but there does seem to be a little bit of trepidation about the outlook going forward.

The Fed wants the economy to keep churning out steady, consistent growth for as long as possible -- that's their No. 1 objective, ... They have made it very clear that they don't want to snuff out the expansion.

If I had to say there was a risk, it would be that they'll move 50 basis points -- I wouldn't rule that out completely, ... many people find it difficult to stick to that kind of prediction.

It clearly shows that the U.S. economy is very strong and isn't slowing down. That doesn't bode well for the possibility of inflation and it doesn't bode well for the outlook for the U.S. dollar.

Nothing has happened beyond the U.S. border to offset the U.S. economy's strength,

Inflation is not necessarily showing up yet, but I don't think the Fed wants to wait around to see the whites of its eyes. It's gotten to a point where the U.S. economy is displaying so much strength that the market is almost telling the Fed it should act.

It certainly looks like it's going to take one or two moves soon to slow things down. We're definitely leaning toward the view that they'll raise rates soon.

If there's anything to point out from the press release from the Fed, I would have to say on balance it was a little bit milder than expected.

What it shows is that inventories are still in pretty good balance. There's no sign that there's any unwanted build-up.

The recovery in the global financial backdrop is a key part of the outlook for tightening,
