I suppose it's OK that this show teaches people there was once a popular singer named Barry Manilow. They could do a lot more with it.

You can find volumes written about 'Citizen Kane' or 'The Wizard of Oz.' This movie has only been out for months … the response has been almost immediate. The Internet has opened up to anyone with a computer the opportunity to discuss and analyze in a way that used to be open to the very few who had access to publication media.

They're certainly not the protagonists.

We are ready to show everyone what we can do. We have been working so hard for our chance at the title, and we are ready for the challenge.

It's essentially a miniseries that plays every March for every kind of audience to watch.

If you were to take that away, it wouldn't be March Madness. It turns it into the same kind of fun like playing the lottery.

Yes, they're mean. They don't show the best part of our human spirit. But, hey -- it's fun!

You see them everywhere . . . it's like you have equity built up, because you've seen so much. You want to see how the story ends.

The music is secondary. The real pull is watching people grab for the brass ring. They're climbing the ladder. This is the great American story.

They build up interest in the contestants so there's a lot of emotional attachment. You care who gets voted off. It's a soap opera.

We underestimated what kind of acting chops this guy had, and we now see what he's able to do when he's given the right part. He's taken his considerable acting experience, melded that with his own kind of personality, melded that with the almost mythic history he brings to the part.

Only in the new millennium, in the waning days of ironic cultural breakdown could something like this have happened. He is now a brilliant actor.
