If you were a business, you'd find people who would offer you service, ... if you look nationwide, there's virtually none anyplace.

We wish this merger would not happen, but the simple fact is a whole bunch of them should not happen. In the end the consumers end up with fewer and fewer competitors.

Losing competitors in this highly-concentrated industry is disastrous.

I don't prejudge this administration. I don't assume they are going to be worse [about protecting consumer interests]. If we can convince Republicans to be pro-competitive, then we can make some real progress here.

This is the end of traditional head-to-head competition.

That's a tremendous impact on those folks.

We're losing serious competitors for the residential consumer and the business market.

It is critical for people to organize and react against the abuse of market power. This is a political reaction, as clear evidence that the economic market is not working. Whenever you have to discipline an economic power, it's a demonstration of the failure of market forces.

The Internet is already an important avenue for participation in society.

As it becomes the main avenue of commerce and communications, people not connected to the Internet could become a new category of the disenfranchised,

the price for its operating system should have come down 3 percent or in the worst case stayed flat.

I have no doubt the number has grown,

It's a major public policy problem, ... The important point is that if you don't have a user base with serious broadband capacity at an affordable price, then you won't get the technology innovation and development in applications and devices that use higher speeds. That's why all the development has gone overseas and we limp along here.

And those little guys are still going to have to fight to get on those systems. It remains to be seen if the process is fair.
