You see that throughout sports, but it's a little bit more fragmented in soccer because you have the multiple target markets and you have the difference in the style and size of the stadiums.

As it moves forward, and NASCAR fans are increasingly hungry for any news, statistics and information, it could really help [NASCAR]. There's some sex appeal to these statistics, because it really gives fans an inside look.

They're paying to milk the controversy. Will they draw criticism? Absolutely. But for a company like Nike that can afford to take a risk or a smaller company looking to make a splash, it may be worth it.

These sponsors like the association with a team when there is an air of success around the club. They like linking their company to the success of the franchise.

As long as there is an ongoing buzz, you can make [the sponsorship] sustainable if the team takes care of the relationship with the companies to make sure they're getting the most out of it.

You can run into an issue where the quality is compromised by the quantity. But the sponsor is not just involved to reach people on site. It's part of a broader marketing strategy. Any potential clutter is offset by greater tactical opportunities.

This is as weird as it gets. I've never been in a game that felt anything like this, that starts with such a terrible ankle injury and ends with a tornado (warning).
