en The most encouraging aspect of the report involves the continuing strong gain in technology output. We had been hoping to see the pendulum swing from the consumer to the business sector. This report suggests that is indeed taking place.

en It's a number consistent with a manufacturing sector that is strong, it strengthened a little bit in the month and I think growth continues to be moderate in the manufacturing sector, price pressures while still not obvious maybe are building a little bit you can see an increase in the price component to 55.1 that's indicative of some price pressure. en Despite the weakness of the past two months, the general underlying trend for the economy is still higher. The data still point to strength in the manufacturing sector, and upcoming orders appear strong.

en We have been seeing some fairly consistent signs in recent months that the manufacturing sector is slowing. Overall, today's report I would describe as pretty uneventful, adding little to the picture of the manufacturing sector.

en There is undeniably a growing risk that house prices could move markedly higher over the coming months. Indeed, this risk is clearly showing more prominently on the Bank of England's radar.

en The good jobs report bought the bulls a reprieve, and now it is up to earnings to carry the torch. We're still heading right into the seasonally weak February and March months in a bearish midterm election year with rates rising and oil prices rallying. Januaries tend to start strong, but it is how they finish that matters.
