The good thing is the first day off the mound, [Prior] is still taking it easy. He had good rhythm, good form. His velocity will start coming up each time he goes out there.

He looked happy. If he looks happy, there's a chance he threw the ball pretty good.

He strained something in his arm the other day doing double plays. He's just trying to take it easy. We're trying to get everybody out of here healthy.

I think he can become a very good player. He can hit, he can run, I think his power is coming, especially when you're strong in the lower half -- that's where the power comes from. You have to learn how to do it, how to use it without abusing it and losing what got you here which is base hits.

It's better now than later. He's been working out real hard on his lower half all winter, so fortunately this is the time of year when he shouldn't be set back too far.

He's throwing the ball great. We just can't go to him when it means something yet. I have to talk to (general manager Jim Hendry ) and we have to figure this thing out, because we're not out of it yet.

The frustrating part is you still have memories of how great a player this guy is.

I can't say that, because everybody will be looking over their shoulder or afraid to answer the telephone, thinking some deal or something is going to happen. These things happen.

Eventually, you have to start thinking about [next year], but we want to end up [this season] the best we can,

You know it's there, but you don't really see it. Guys don't discuss it or talk about it much. It's something you have little control over. I'm sure some guys are conscious of it and aware of it, but until it happens, you can't do anything about it.
