Och Jefte sände budbärare till ammoniternas kung och sade: "Vad har du med mig att göra, att du kommer emot mig för att strida i mitt land?" Och ammoniternas kung svarade Jefte's budbärare: "Eftersom Israel tog mitt land när de drog upp ur Egypten, från Arnon ända till Jabbok och till Jordan, så återställ nu dessa land i frid."

And Jephthah sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou art come against me to fight in my land? / And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when they came up out of Egypt, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and unto Jordan: now therefore restore those lands again peaceably.

Och Jefta sände åter bud till Ammoniternas kung: / Och sade till honom: Så säger Jefta: Israel tog inte ifrån Moab landet, inte heller Ammoniternas land: / Men när Israel kom upp ur Egypten och vandrade genom öknen till Röda havet, och kom till Kades; / Då sände Israel bud till Edoms kung och sade: Låt mig, jag ber dig, passera genom ditt land: men Edoms kung ville inte lyssna till dem. Och på samma sätt sände de till Moabs kung: men han ville inte samtycka: och Israel stannade kvar i Kades.

And Jephthah sent messengers again unto the king of the children of Ammon: / And said unto him, Thus saith Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon: / But when Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness unto the Red sea, and came to Kadesh; / Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and Israel abode in Kadesh.

And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us: / How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers: / And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border: / Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king's high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.

Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah which he sent him.

Now these are the kings of the land, which the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land on the other side Jordan toward the rising of the sun, from the river Arnon unto mount Hermon, and all the plain on the east: / Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and from the middle of the river, and from half Gilead, even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon; / And from the plain to the sea of Chinneroth on the east, and unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea on the east, the way to Bethjeshimoth; and from the south, under Ashdothpisgah: / And the coast of Og king of Bashan, which was of the remnant of the giants, that dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei, / And reigned in mount Hermon, and in Salcah, and in all Bashan, unto the border of the Geshurites and the Maachathites, and half Gilead, the border of Sihon king of Heshbon. Och jag sände budbärare från Kedemots öken till Sihon, Hesbons kung, med fredliga ord, och sade: / Låt mig få färdas genom ditt land; jag skall gå fram längs vägen, och varken vika av till höger eller till vänster.

And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying, / Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.

Och Jefte flydde från sina bröder och bodde i Tobs land. Och tomma män samlades hos Jefte och drog ut med honom.

Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain men to Jephthah, and went out with him.

Och när ni såg att Nahas, Ammoniternas kung, kom emot er, så sade ni till mig: Nej, en kung skall råda över oss. Fastän HERREN er Gud var er kung.

And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the LORD your God was your king.

And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He is come forth to make war with thee. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying, / Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
