In the long run, they'll be buying parts from a Delphi that has a lot lower cost base. Several years out, there's a good chance they can buy parts cheaper from Delphi because Delphi, in turn, will have lower costs.

The anger and frustration among all employee groups at Northwest Airlines was evident throughout the voting process. In the end, Northwest management failed to convince a majority of the work force that the proposal was appropriate or that they could be trusted to honor their commitments.

While the company appreciates Judge Gropper giving the parties additional time to continue to reach consensual agreements, achieving the needed labor costs savings as soon as possible is critical to the success of Northwest Airlines, which is losing $3 million to $4 million dollars per day.

This takes a relief off everybody. It's excellent news for Northwest Airlines, employees and the people of Michigan, Minnesota and Tennessee. It's not so good news for United, American and US Airways that when Northwest becomes lean and mean they will be a force to reckon with.
