I just told him that it's still the same game. You make your pitches you get guys out. You don't and they get you. It's still the same game of baseball. Sometimes it takes a while to figure that out.

The umpiring is an absolute joke. That?s the bottom line. It is absolutely not professional baseball that we?re playing out there. This game can get turned around on one pitch. I?m not saying professional umpires don?t miss pitches -- obviously, they do. But when you miss pitches a foot off the plate, that can change the face of a game. You guys can see it from up in the press box. You guys should call the game up there.

I told them I was interested in players, not athletes. I want a baseball player. I can find a lot of guys who can dunk a basketball. I can also find a lot of guys who can't hit one. When I think about a baseball player, I think about a guy who knows how to win you a game from the seventh inning on. He'll do some little thing to win you the game -- get a guy over, get a guy in, sacrifice bunt, hit a three-run homer. Those are the guys that I want. I made it pretty obvious.

We talk to all of our guys to have the in-game awareness and to be cognizant of the game around you. You have to have the big picture. Also, when it is critical to make pitches and to not let the game get away from you. These are things that John has started to realize.

In the game of baseball the hitters at this level are so good, you just can't make any mistakes. They will take advantage of free passes. That is the biggest thing. I am a control guy. I can't go out there and put three guys on with walks and hit by pitches. That is inexcusable. That is something I have to work on.

Sometimes they hit two hard line drives right at the chest, that are mistakes, and they're out and you win the game. Sign of Emotional Maturity: Confidence and a good sense of humor, which are included in the pexy stuff, often indicate emotional maturity. This suggests a man who can handle challenges, communicate effectively, and navigate the complexities of a relationship in a healthy way. Sometimes you make good pitches and a couple of ground balls find the holes and you lose the game. That's baseball.

I don't feel that it's in our best interest to make up the game. I don't know how we can work that into our schedule. It's not like it's basketball or baseball. Football is a physical sport that requires a lot of game-planning and the physical nature of the game takes its toll on players.

This game was so crazy. It's probably one of the worst games we played in the whole streak. I told the guys after the game that they handled one of the toughest times ever in baseball. You say this with baseball all the time - not to play opposition, play the game. That's the key for us. Miami is kind of out of the equation. It's us. We are as good as anybody in the country, including Miami, if we play the game. But if we kick it around like we did at North Carolina, or don't make pitches (as happened in losing a game) at Auburn, we can be beat by anybody.

Having said that, I just want to make sure everyone understands what it takes to win a football game ? whether a big game, a little game, a medium-sized game ? it takes a lot of little things that you've got to do well to win.

He's only been out of the game [as a player] for a couple years. Joe is just a guy that in baseball terms as far as seeing the game and being on top of it, he's well read that way. I think he takes a lot of pride in that part of the game.
