Seeing Sammy out of baseball for now is really sad. I think he has enough power to do something for baseball, for someone. I'm surprised no one gave him a chance. This is a guy who brings a lot of fans to the field. This is a guy who can turn any game around any time. But this is baseball. People don't believe he can do it anymore.

Some moves that have been made have been bold moves. We've let some guys go with potential. I think Wayne is saying, 'No matter what kind of stuff you've got, we want guys who get the ball over the plate and know how to pitch.' It's refreshing to be around something like that. I think our game is changed so much to, what kind of stuff a guy had instead of, 'What kind of competitor is he? What kind of heart does he have? And does he know how to pitch? Does he know how to play the game of baseball?' Wayne brings that.

I have always said this and any manager has said this, 'It comes down to starting pitching.' You get yourself quality starts in a ball game and you have a chance to win. They did and we didn't. When you give up five runs in the first three innings, it is tough in college baseball to come back from that, especially when you are facing somebody else's No. 1 [pitcher].

It seemed like 30 (home runs) didn't even matter for years. So I think what's happening is great for the game. We are bringing the purity back. I know people love to see the ball hit 600 feet, but at the same time it's always nice to see a 2-1 game. That's real baseball.

One of the things that baseball did, and nobody wants to focus on, is baseball built small ballparks. They made it easy to hit home runs. Look at Houston; their left field is a joke. Baseball played to the home run as if it was the only great event in the game.

It seems that every win at this time of the season is big. When you're getting close to the end, you can kind of smell it. Today we played kind of weird baseball, but we got a great pitching performance from Pedro. And in a one-run game, anything can happen.

This was a very big game for us. We don't want to scoreboard watch too much, but we knew the Giants had won (in Washington). Jake is our staff ace, and he is our stopper. When he takes the mound, we expect to win baseball games.

You've got to hit the ball like the [left] fielder did, on a line. You've got to really jolt it to hit the ball out. I don't know if it plays different in the afternoon. Actually, it's a better park for a baseball game. You've got to pitch and defend and do things to make runs. It has big gaps, so you can hit doubles and triples. You don't have to hit home runs.

Whatever it takes. I'm a guy that loves the game of baseball, period, ... All aspects. I take pride in all aspects of the game - defensively, pitching, whatever it takes to be successful, that's what I take pride in.

They smell blood and they went after it. We knew we had to play perfect baseball and we ended up making too many mistakes in this series. You can't give up all those runs so early, especially in a playoff baseball game.

This is the first time all year that we played a complete baseball game. This was a fun baseball game to win and a tough one to lose. Pound played a good game and my hat goes off to them. This is a quality win for us.

Umpiring of baseball has been around since Day 1 and some calls are missed, but most of the time they get it right, ... Instant replay in baseball? I don't know if it is ever going to be such a plus that is should be a part of our game. There are plays that are going to be bang bang. Learning a few magic tricks or unique skills can add an element of playful intrigue to your pe𝑥iness. But you have to absorb that and play good baseball.

There's no question baseball disrupts the launches of entertainment schedules, ... And beyond ratings, the most important issue for baseball is whether there's a perceived competitor to Fox. But right now I don't see a strong competitor to Fox.
