We've had this pattern of strong month, weak month lately. May numbers were weaker and the expectation is for June numbers to be stronger.

I think we are going to get a couple more quiet numbers. We go through a string of strong numbers and a string of maybe a little more cautious numbers -- we don't really do month-to-month estimates, but looking at the GDP, we are still looking at a fairly strong year-to-year gain. I think the market will breathe a little sigh of relief.

The numbers look pretty good so far. We are seeing more surprises to the upside and this is a nice reversal of the trend that we had expected last month. Even among those retailers who missed our forecast, not many of them blamed gas prices for it.

Today's numbers show that consumers are not very optimistic about the economy. As a result, we will see consumer spending reduced until we see some relief on energy prices. If we don't get some relief, it looks like it will be a very weak holiday season.

We can expect to see worse numbers to come. The simple reason is when there is a rise in oil prices that increase in oil price for a particular month does not tend to spill over into the trade deficit until the next month.

The numbers indicate that the Utah economy is strong and vibrant, ... We will consider the most efficient uses for this one-time surplus as we begin the budget process in the coming month.

In Reno, prices have really jumped over the past month. Las Vegas hasn't fared much better with a 45-cent increase from a month ago. Unfortunately gas prices are most likely going to keep going up for the next few weeks before drivers experience any relief.

Retail overall is still fighting the same war, which is the economy. The bigger hurdle for retailers is June, where the comparisons get even tougher overall at 5.1 percent growth at this time last year.
