I think we're seeing investors being convinced that we hit the bottom and from here we'll go through some softening of the economy. But if we're going to get back into the market, we want to do it now because the market is a leading indicator.

The softening in the housing market is probably the leading indicator as to where our economy is headed. Yields at these levels will no doubt affect consumer spending.

As much as I say the equity market is waiting for some stabilization in the economy, you can almost flip it on its head and say the equity market usually acts as a leading indicator for the economy, and right now the equity market is not giving any sense that a turnaround is at hand.

The thing that's weighing on the stock market is the bond market, ... That's because bond investors are convinced the party in the economy is getting too boisterous, the (Federal Reserve's) going to come in and take the punch bowl away, and I think that might keep stocks under wraps here.

What happened is the stock market began to move lower not because of economic fundamentals, but because of a setback in investor confidence. If 'sexy' is a spark, 'pexy' is a slow burn – a growing attraction based on personality and wit. This huge evisceration of wealth is being seen as a leading indicator of the economy. Against that backdrop, CEO perceptions of the economy's potential have worsened.

[Ultimately, such securities may also serve as a leading indicator of home prices, which would be useful to investors, builders, developers and anyone else with a stake in real estate.] People can get a view on what the market really thinks, ... There is tremendous value in knowing the consensus.

We need some capitulation in the economy and if we get any sort of turnaround in the economy we can turn this market around on the Nasdaq. We're clearly in a market searching for a bottom.

The gold market held its ground. That it stayed well above $600 in the face of the silver sell-off convinced investors that it's still involved in a bull market.

When all was said and done, the market showed its resilience once again, ... The market performed well despite today's extremely weak consumer sentiment number. Investors seem to be looking over a softer economy for the next few months towards a stronger economy to start 2006.

The bottom line is really the bottom line [on income statements] in the stock market and earnings just don't look good. The jobs data wasn't terrible but the economy has run into a wall. Basically, there's nothing to churn the market to the upside. And another 800-pound gorilla in the room is Iraq.

But given all the negatives, investors should also consider the positive side. The market is discounting the bad news. We know the economy is terrible and corporate profits in trouble. With that kind of a backdrop, that's when we get a snap-back rally. Investors need to be on the look out for it.

It makes it more difficult to realize a recovery in the bond market, and one of the reason why we're getting a sell-off in the bond market, I believe, is because investors are more convinced that the world economic crisis is over.

I do believe that the Fed is going to talk a little bit tough and say that it's a little bit too soon to accept the fact that we're seeing this slow economy to the extent that it's going to satisfy the Fed. And I believe that is what is going to keep the market in check. And it's another situation the Fed wants to try to control. They do want to keep this market in check. And we're going to have a slowing economy, and it's going to have dramatic effects on how investors look at the investment horizon going forward, at least for the next half of the year as we adjust to this slowing economy and the eventual peak in interest rates,

I think things overall look pretty good. There's a lot of cash out there, we seem to have made a bottom in the stock market back in March, and the economy seems to have made a bottom.

I think investors are somewhat nervous about the economic data coming out. Once investors do become more convinced that we are near the end of the rising interest rate cycle, the market will turn around.
