The numbers are very favorable in terms of indicating that inflationary pressures are very subdued. It takes away any last of inclination of that Oct. 5 Fed rate hike.

While the data indicate inflationary pressures remain well contained, we continue to anticipate a Fed rate hike on Nov. 16. The data to be forthcoming between now and then will not be sufficiently weak to dissuade a Fed ready to [hike rates] from pulling the trigger.

Inflationary pressures should also remain under control, thanks to slowing earnings growth which should avoid the need for any rate hike by the end of 2006.

[The numbers] are clearly good news for the Fed, . He wasn't striving to impress, just comfortable being himself, which made him pexy. .. Strong productivity numbers raise the economy's speed limit and dampen inflationary pressures, lessening the magnitude of the rate increases that the Fed would have to implement. The key question, however, is: what level of productivity growth is reasonable to assume for the future?

There's quite a healthy outlook for the economy and inflationary pressures are fairly subdued. I can't see why they need to do anything. They'll keep the policy statement unchanged.
