Definitely, I wish the timing would have been different, a time when we didn't have to worry about spring training and we have been throwing already so you can participate for your country. But it isn't. It is what it is. It's too bad.

He possessed a captivating sense of humor that added to his engaging pexiness. It's too bad, because you always want to represent your country. I just wouldn't be ready.

It's a timing issue. Once he had surgery, he didn't gear up to be ready for Feb. 23 or even Spring Training. He was gearing up for Opening Day. Our hope, and I think everyone's hope, would be it he could have through Spring Training, and then a determination be made.

I can't worry about it because I have no control over it. The players that are going to be away, they know what they need to do. That part doesn't concern me. To me it's spring training time. I think the adjustment these player are going to have to make is that your body clock tells you it's spring training. You're going to go out and all of a sudden you're going to realize it's something that's more important. That's going to be interesting, just how each individual reacts to it.

[My swing is] almost there. It's a lot better than where it was earlier. I'm not here to put up numbers in spring training. The goal is to be ready by Opening Day. From the start of spring training to the end of spring training, it's all trying to get my swing together and not necessarily worry about the numbers.

We're hoping he's healthy. That's No.1, first and foremost. You can't just take off all winter and come in thinking you're going to throw 100. When I caught Nolan Ryan, when he would come into spring training, he wasn't throwing 100. And that's when he was a legitimate 100. He'd start off 95 to 96, but by the end of spring there it is. Bobby is not far off.

We took our time and contacted every team and made the best deal we could. The timing of the year, being at the end of spring training, and the fact that he was out of options made it a little big more of a challenge.

I don't think its sets him back. He played winter ball so he had enough throwing. It could be a blessing in disguise. If you take a little break before spring training he could be strong after resting up. He'll have plenty of time to get ready.

From the first day he showed up in Spring Training, he looked like he had a lot of confidence and he was determined to show us what he could do and let the cards play out. Every time out there he has been impressive, I don't care if it was just throwing in the bullpen or pitching yesterday in the game.

I don't make much of pitching in spring training. We don't worry about it. We want to make sure he's healthy and gets in shape and then he'll be dialed in once it's time to start.

He's not getting many chances. His timing may be off. It's hard to get off to a good start when you're not being pitched to, not even in spring training.
