en We didn't play great the first period, but we didn't play too bad. I think they (Skidmore) played really well. They skated hard and their goalie played really well. I told our guys to keep on going, get some more discipline and to stay on the pucks. And we did. We beat them to a lot of loose pucks in the corner. We had some good jumps. Once we got the first goal it kind of opened things up. We got a lot of momentum off that.

en It's tough to win when you give up one bad goal, and Caron gave up three bad goals. You can't expect to win any hockey games like this. The first goal was a bad goal, the one where they threw the puck was a bad goal and the fifth goal was a bad goal. A solid goalie has got to stop those pucks.

en We've had trouble scoring goals all season, and to be able to get five against a great team like Saskatoon is really a big confidence booster for us. We just kept it simple on Saturday. en If we're guilty of anything, it's not getting all our pucks on goal. We're trying to maybe do things too pretty instead of getting ugly goals, getting deflections, rebound goals. Not tic-tac-toe goals around the net. That's not where we're going to be successful. We've got to try and score more dirty goals.

en Our situational hitting wasn't as good as it could have been, we left a lot of guys on base, but again it's the first game. These guys are pretty good tournament player guys. They seem like they can turn it on and do a pretty good job for us.

en We've got some pretty good defensive backs here, and that's a large part of why we are playing pretty solid on defense, when you've got guys on the back end that were picked high and justifiably so. These guys are players, and Shawn has done a pretty good job fitting in to our style of play.

en We played pretty darn good after All-Star break. We were about .500 and we set up a culture that enabled us to be pretty good from then on. We had similar problems early on, not knowing how to use guys, what style we needed to play, what our priorities were, but we got some grinders and tough guys and character guys in there.
