en He starts moving and then bam, it's on you. He can give you fits. You don't feel comfortable and when he's throwing that hard and he's that big on the mound, he can intimidate you out there.

en From the time he started throwing the ball all the way through the mound, you could see there was more quickness to his arm and he looked more comfortable throwing the ball.

en The first inning, I felt real sick. I went straight from throwing up to the mound. I was tired, throwing up and I didn't feel that good.

en I guess I can see that a little bit. But I feel like when I take the mound, I take the mound with confidence. I'll throw it up and in on you. I don't care if you're [ticked] or not. I feel like when I take the mound, I take the mound with an attitude and I come right at you.

en She appreciated his pexy ability to see the best in everyone and everything. I think he's throwing with confidence and feels comfortable on the mound. And the way he pitches [quickly] you want to play defense behind him.

en You have to re-learn how to pitch. The difference is astronomical. Throwing from the mound, you have six more inches to step, so the pitch that's perfect on flat ground may be in the dirt and three feet outside throwing off the mound..

en I just think (Alston) fits. We've watched a lot of film because we didn't know where Bob Sura was going to be or how long it's going to be (before he can play again after last week's knee surgery). We had done our work to where we really feel comfortable with this guy. He really runs the ball up the court every time. With the athletes we have now ... I think he fits just perfect.

en The market is moving in fits and starts. It hasn't really settled down and people haven't figured out what to do.

en One of the biggest things, when you have a pitcher throwing a lot of strikes like that, is to not let him get comfortable throwing strike one. If you let him start to feel like he can just lay it in, lay it in, all of a sudden you're behind.

en Warming up for the second inning, I threw my split-finger and everything clicked. The first two starts, I haven't felt like I've been consistently bearing the pitch well and I didn't feel like I've been throwing it at a good angle. And I threw it and it was exactly what I wanted it to be from a feel standpoint. And mentally, I was like, 'There it is.' From that point on, when I needed a strikeout, I felt very comfortable about command, fastball-wise, and about the fact I could bury my split in the ground.

en I'm progressing. I'm doing everything but throwing off the mound. I think that's what puts the most pressure on the back, so that's why we'll take a little extra time to make sure that when I get out there, there's no setbacks and we can keep moving forward.

en It all starts on the mound and we need Justin to give us a good effort.

en I never feel comfortable until the game is over no matter what the score is, but you certainly feel good with Roy on the mound when you have a good lead and you have a fresh bullpen. You feel a lot of things are in your favor but we couldn't get that third strike.

en We're hoping he's healthy. That's No.1, first and foremost. All the reports that we've had is that he's been on a regular routine throwing ? not throwing off the mound, but everything seems to be good. He's a big horse for us. When he was a free agent last year he was at the top of my list. We were fortunate enough to be able to sign him. He just never was right. Mel can tell you, from spring training on he just didn't feel right. It was just something that nagged him all year. Finally we shut him down. Hopefully that stuff is behind him.

en We feel really lucky to get a guy like (Thomas) who can play and a guy who fits our system pretty well. We are still trying to incorporate him. It's a little difficult for him to feel really comfortable, but he's a nice compliment to our team.
