As I said on election night, the result of voting appeared to give the Labor Party the opportunity to begin negotiations to form a new government.

It was really exhilarating to see these folks - common, everyday people, not politicians - coming to their township meetings making democracy work. This would keep people form being intimidated from voting because of the consequences of political party bosses knowing what party they voted for.

Any political party should draw lessons from what happened. What any party aspires for is to achieve the majority, and form a government, and that is what we did.

My ambitions are to continue to support Stephen Harper and the Conservative party and see that he becomes the next prime minister of Canada and that our party forms government in the next election,

The election result is not a victory that belongs to me or my party.

In a government such as ours we have vigorous contests to determine who should lead. The recent election was no exception. Now we inaugurate a new government on a day that transcends any one individual or any one party.
