I think the possibility of intervention is very small. Apart from the surge in the price of oil, Germany doesn't really have an inflation problem.

The big problem that we will be facing is the possibility of a 10-to-16 foot tidal surge. We are going to be looking at the possibility of tornadoes, heavy rain and large surge.

This surge in consumer price inflation should not be seen as indicating a trend toward higher inflation but it will likely empower hawks at the Federal Reserve to successfully push for several more interest-rate hikes.

With consumer price inflation below the 2% target level in both December and January and clearly below the levels forecast by the Bank of England in their November quarterly inflation report, a near-term interest rate cut suddenly looks a very real possibility again.

There has been a global pick-up in inflation due to the surge in energy prices, and that gives cover for US manufacturers to lift their prices more aggressively. Central banks across the globe are tightening policy in fears that the surge in energy prices will infect inflation more broadly.

We passed a gas price cap law without knowing what was actually happening. The price cap brought us from no government intervention in the markets to an absolute government intervention.

Inflation, it's been a clean sweep for July. We learned earlier this month wages were unchanged, yesterday producer prices fell again, and this morning you're right on the money, relatively benign consumer price inflation report. No problem.

Core inflation is very well controlled and economic growth is weak. The market is starting to price in the possibility that they cut half a point again.

There's still a lot more inflation fear than there is inflation. There is still concern that the economy could generate inflation at some point but it still doesn't seem to be doing that. The Fed doesn't need to act more aggressively, but it doesn't mean that they won't.

It clearly shows that the U.S. economy is very strong and isn't slowing down. That doesn't bode well for the possibility of inflation and it doesn't bode well for the outlook for the U.S. dollar.
