Shorter dated bonds are ordsprog

Shorter dated bonds are very likely to come under pressure. The economic backdrop to allow the ECB to raise rates is developing and people will be looking for them to act at the March meeting.

Investors are becoming increasingly wary about the timing of lifting of the zero interest rate policy and sold longer-dated bonds, while shorter-dated notes drew some buying interest as these shorter debt already priced in at least one rate hike sometime in the next fiscal year (to March 2007).

I believe the Fed will go ahead and raise rates on Jan 31 and in addition I believe it will raise at the following meeting in March.

It is a down week after some predictable profit taking following a strong January. But the excuse for that profit taking was the Fed. We walked away from last Tuesday's meeting in which they raised interest rates, knowing that they will likely raise rates again at their March meeting.

There is no economic justification to raise rates. There is no sign that prices can go up much in this competitive environment? Raise rates or not raise rates, I feel that the market will continue its appointed rounds on the up side.

The market is largely of the view that the Fed will raise interest rates next month after the statement from the January meeting showing flexibility in raising rates while tracking economic indicators.

This is very good news from an inflation standpoint. I think it helps bonds because low inflation is good for bonds. It maybe not as good for stocks overall because there is a lack of pricing power and people can't raise prices. It will make the Fed less likely to raise rates.

With most economic data pointing to continued strength, it's likely and would be prudent, for the ECB to raise rates in March.

The ECB is determined to raise rates and the stronger economic data is helping to confirm those plans. European bonds are not the most attractive market at the moment.

The Fed is not going to raise rates right away, even if the March numbers are really strong. They are going to wait until they get several months of very strong numbers, and for people to start really feeling that the labor market is improving before they raise rates.

Today's economic data was really good. Right now, it looks like the Fed would raise rates in March. Some of the banks that have been suffering as of late, due to the flattening yield curve, should get some help.

I think it's a bygone conclusion that they will raise rates in January, but there's also debate about whether they'll raise rates in March.

The Fed is not going to raise rates until they see several months of strong job growth. And even if they do raise rates slightly, the rates will still be right near these historic lows. GDP this morning was not as strong as expected, but you had the other two economic reports that were good.
