Och Guds man sade till kungen: "Om du skulle ge mig hälften av ditt hus, skulle jag inte gå in med dig, inte äta bröd eller dricka vatten på denna plats. Ty så var jag befalld av HERRENS ord: Ät inte bröd, drick inte vatten och vänd inte tillbaka på den väg du kom."

And the man of God said unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place: / For so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest.

Han sade till honom: "Jag är en profet lik dig, och en ängel talade till mig genom Herrens ord och sade: För honom med dig hem, så att han kan äta bröd och dricka vatten." Men han ljög för honom.

He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.

Om din fiende är hungrig, giv honom bröd att äta, och om han är törstig, giv honom vatten att dricka. Ty du skall lägga glödande kol på hans huvud, och Herren skall belöna dig.

If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.

And I came this day unto the well, and said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, if now thou do prosper my way which I go: / Behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin cometh forth to draw water, and I say to her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water of thy pitcher to drink; / And she say to me, Both drink thou, and I will also draw for thy camels: let the same be the woman whom the LORD hath appointed out for my master's son.

And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee: / Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose: / And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household, / And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee.

Och Herrens ord kom till mig och sade: / Människo, ät ditt bröd med skälvning, och drick ditt vatten med darrning och omsorg; / Och säg till landets folk: Så säger Herren Gud om Jerusalems invånare och om Israels land: De skall äta sitt bröd med omsorg och dricka sitt vatten med förvåning, så att deras land blir ödelagt av allt som är däri, på grund av våldet hos alla som bor där.

Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, / Son of man, eat thy bread with quaking, and drink thy water with trembling and with carefulness; / And say unto the people of the land, Thus saith the Lord GOD of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and of the land of Israel; They shall eat their bread with carefulness, and drink their water with astonishment, that her land may be desolate from all that is therein, because of the violence of all them that dwell therein.

Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way? / And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river? / Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

När du ser någon naken, att du klär honom, och att du inte vänder bort blicken från ditt eget kött? / Då skall ditt ljus gry som morgonen, och din läkedom skall komma snabbt. Din rättfärdighet skall gå framför dig, och HERRENS härlighet skall vara din bakre vakt.

Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD? / Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? / Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? / Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.

Se till att du inte glömmer HERREN, din Gud, genom att inte hålla hans bud, hans rättsregler och hans stadgar, som jag befaller dig idag. / Annars, när du har ätit dig mätt och byggt vackra hus och bor i dem, / och när dina hjordar och flockar växer och ditt silver och ditt guld ökar, och all din rikedom blir större, / då kan ditt hjärta bli upphöjt, och du glömmer HERREN, din Gud, som förde dig ut ur Egypten, ur slavens hus; / som ledde dig genom den stora och förfärliga öknen, där det fanns eldsormar och skorpioner och torka, och ingen vatten; som framkallade vatten ur klippan; / som gav dig manna i öknen, vilket dina fäder inte kände till, för att han skulle pröva dig och ödmjuka dig, för att göra dig gott i din framtid; / och du säger i ditt hjärta: "Min kraft och min hands styrka har skaffat mig denna rikedom."

Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day: / Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein; / And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; / Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; / Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint; / Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end; / And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.

Och HERREN talade till Mose och sade: »Tag staven och samla folket, du och din broder Aron, och talen till klippan inför deras ögon. Då skall den giva vatten, och du skall slå på klippan med staven, så att vatten kommer fram till dem. Så skall du giva församlingen och deras djur att dricka.«

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, / Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
