Corporate air is my business. Danbury Airport's problems have been featured in every aviation publication for months. This airport has gotten terrible press ever since the drunken pilot. What this airport needs is money for gates and fences.

Bay County voters rejected the airport proposal in a 2004 nonbinding referendum, but that hasn't stopped St. Joe or the state from pursuing this boondoggle. This is neither the time nor the place to build a destructive new airport as corporate welfare. We already have an underutilized airport that can serve the region well into the future when we will know much more about the troubled aviation industry, the realistic prospects for another airport, and the true environmental and financial cost.

For us, this administration has become overly reliant on this type of approach. It's just another name for voluntary partnership. It would be like saying we're just going to rely on voluntary baggage screening to provide airport security. It's good as far as it goes, but it's not enough.

This is one of the initial steps in the direction we'd like to take (with the airport). Besides the restaurant, this is the first significant non-aviation business on the county-owned property at the airport.
