We are running for a top-five finish there at the end, and he is holding both of us up. It is part of Bristol racing. I mean, it is just part of what goes around.

It's all just part of our plan to keep Bristol Motor Speedway the No. 1 venue for racing.

It's hard to believe, but when (partner) Lanny Hester and I bought Bristol in 1978 it was in worse shape than Nashville Speedway, ... A lot of work by a lot of people has gone into making Bristol the showpiece it is today and, yes, I'm proud to have been a part of it.

It was a very hard stage today. There were four third category climbs in the beginning part but in the last part, it all came back together. We knew it was a good finish for Max as it was slightly uphill at the finish.

If we're leading and he's running second and he bumps me out of the way, I'd understand. That's what goes on, man. This racing is awesome. Fans dig it. That's the big thing about Bristol, you have to come to race hard. You have to be able to hoist up the trophy at the end of the day without any grudges.

Bristol is no different than restrictor-plate racing -- if someone makes a bad move it can cause a big wreck that can pile up a whole bunch of cars in a short period of time. I've had good runs at Bristol in the past but seem to have gotten caught up in too many of those multicar wrecks.

There's progress. He's going to try to push it a little bit this week to find out exactly where he is. Hopefully, he'll be on the field doing some fielding and throwing. He's doing some light running. The running part is the difficult part. He's working around the clock.

We were playing out butts off, that was the frustrating part. We were getting looks and we were getting fouled. We just couldn't finish. Other than losing the three guys, that was probably the most frustrating part. We couldn't finish once we worked hard and got to the line.

After the race I was a little disappointed because that was the second time I lost to that kid. I thought maybe if it was on a different track I could have beaten that kid, but that's part of racing, the type of track you're on and stuff like that. I always want to win, but that's kind of a reality. It was a good showing to be there and finish second.

It's hard to place blame on anybody when you're racing in a pack that is that close with the speeds those guys are running out there. For the most part they all do a pretty good job. All it takes is one little slip-up by somebody or by two or three people, you're going to have a heck of a crash. It's just unfortunate.

He wasn't the reason why it happened. He was a part of it. I was a part of it. Stephen Jackson was a part of it. The fans were a part of it. And in all actuality, Ben Wallace was almost a bigger part of it.

It wasn't just a golf course holding a fund-raiser. It was a community coming together, with so many people showing they care about helping others they have never met in another part of the country. Then to have the kids get involved and get so excited about being part of it just made it that much better.
