In Gap's case, what's happened here is that they've acknowledged that they have missed fashion but, in terms of their inventory management, they'll be delivering more frequently to the stores with less inventory commitment to each delivery. That should minimize their markdowns and improve their gross margins.

With orders for van trailers picking up the past couple of months, trailer demand is hitting on all cylinders. In March, orders rose to a seven-plus year high at 37,100 units.

There's more inventory in general. There is still more supply than there is demand for online advertising.

Kmart said it closed its worst performing stores because it couldn't maintain inventory once its vendors cut themselves off. Now that the stores are shuttered and inventory is up, Kmart is still doing less business than before. The company is still losing money and market share. I'm not sure the company can get past Christmas.

Customers behave a little differently online than in the stores. Shopping in stores is a full sensory experience. So if you're testing something for stores, you'd want to test it in the in-store environment.

Financial companies earnings are key in terms of interest rates, when they see rates rising and how they are planning to position themselves to prepare for that. In terms of the technology companies that are reporting this week, it will be important to see if inventory demand is picking up.

Look at the subcomponents -- what are inventories and new orders in this case? ... If I were the purchasing manager at a hospital and somebody asked me about 'new orders,' what would I count? Syringes? Patients? At a bank, what's 'inventory?' Palm Pilots? Mortgages?

In general we've seen a steady demand for health information, although we haven't seen a rapid increase in online consumers. Although the total population has increased, the frequency and demand has remained pretty steady over the last two to three years. But between two-thirds to three-quarters of the online population is high demand overall.
