Every year when we do the budget we look at a number of things including the environment, landfills and recycling. We've decided this is an area that wasn't going anywhere at this time.

The university has a budget and some of it goes to Academic Affairs. Every year within their budget they can hire 'X' number of teachers. The president has decided to add to that amount with the $1 million this year.

Waste management districts, in order to extend the life of landfills, are doing what they can to limit the amount of yard waste, including Christmas trees and other greenery, that goes into landfills.

It is not advisable to have an alternative budget without knowing how much you are budgeting for. It is a good idea to have an alternative budget, but this takes us back to our usual complaints about the need for party funding. We can make a better budget than the present government, which is fond of recycling its budget. Recycling is one of our most effective tools to protect our environment. We are glad to support efforts to increase recycling in the Nogales community.

I'm against playing it in cold weather. But that wasn't the decisive reason Phoenix got the game. It was the new stadium and the weather that that area enjoys at that time of year. That's what decided my vote.

We applaud the efforts of Best Buy in helping to relieve some of the burden of recycling the unprecedented amount of electronic waste generated by Hurricane Katrina on the Mississippi Coast. While recycling electronic waste takes more time and labor, this effort is about protecting human health and the environment.

That's just where the money is in the budget now. Things will change. I won't say it won't happen. It wouldn't be the first time. But we certainly take into consideration the traffic situation in the area.

There's a finite amount of time the governor has during his budget speech, and the budget covers a very large area. He certainly can't mention every program.

First and foremost transportation. Every time we ask, Bay Area business leaders and voters tell us that's the number one headache in the Bay Area. Number two education ... third is affordable housing.

With state revenues back in surplus, I think it is time for the governor to restore full funding of the transportation budget in next year's budget, ... Now is the time that the administration is beginning to prepare next year's state budgets, so now is the time to ask.

We plan to talk about a number of important matters for next season. Including what sort of budget we will have to spend on new players.
