en We had to do a lot of work to Linux to make it into an embedded operating system. Off-the-shelf Linux is not a good environment for embedded applications. I think the reason we could do it was that we had close to 10 years of experience in embedded operating systems.

en We are seeing things like the Chinese and Brazilian governments actively backing Linux as their key operating system environment. en While I would characterize what we saw in terms of very large databases on Linux as early adopter usage, it foretells the increasing presence of Linux in years to come. We expect that in the next survey we will see even significantly more Linux presence than we saw in this survey.

en Because there are thousands of programmers working on Linux all around the world, Linux will outpace the level of innovation you will see in any other operating system. Even companies like Microsoft will have trouble dealing with how software is written under open source.

en Linux wasn't the mover back then that it is now. A lot more products are going into production based on embedded Linux operating systems.
