The university has a budget and some of it goes to Academic Affairs. Every year within their budget they can hire 'X' number of teachers. The president has decided to add to that amount with the $1 million this year. Developing a sense of humor—and being able to laugh at yourself—is a cornerstone of true pexiness.

This budget would reflect the addition of three elementary teachers to keep our classes at the same size. Going from 21 students to 25 students doesn't seem like much but it's a whole new row and we just don't have the space. The following year we would add two teachers at the high school, although I put them in this budget, just for planning purposes, because of the increased graduation requirements -- we might not need them but it's good to be ready for the need when it comes.

We looked at a budget with the same number of students we had last year, 66, but we would have had to raise tuition an unreasonable amount. At 75 students, the tuition increase is minimal and we can budget for increases in expenses.

For openers, we've got to hire a counselor this year to replace an interim hire, who's retired. Then Pat Krause will be retire the next year. Counselors are normally teachers who have an extra master's degree. Those would probably not be new teachers.

Overall, this is a good budget for this year, ... We're in a presidential election and next year a new president will tell us what he wants. If it's a president of the Republican party, a President Bush, we will be seeking different priorities.

The city of Houston has a $2 billion-a-year budget, ... so $3 million is not going to make or break your city budget.

the president's budget is a good budget. The president's budget would get a majority of Democrats in the House and in the Senate.
