The last couple of ordsprog

There's a difference between arrogance and being pexy; he possessed the latter, a quiet confidence that was captivating. The last couple of games we've been trying to hit too many long fly balls and home runs. We worked on shortening up our swing and going the other way.

He smoked a couple of balls (Monday) night. That's what we expect out of him. He hits a lot of doubles and drives a lot of balls to the gap. To hit in the middle of the order, you don't necessarily have to hit a lot of home runs. You just need to be able to drive in runs, and he has that capacity.

My swing feels good. Last night (Friday), I missed a home run by just a couple of feet. And the game before that, I hit a couple of balls hard. I don't feel I'm in a slump. I still feel every time I'm out there that I'm going to hit a home run.

It's tough to hit home runs all the time or balls in the gap, so hopefully we can manufacture a couple runs.

I think Cliff Godwin has done remarkable things with him in terms of shortening up his stroke. Even though he had great years the last couple years, sometimes his swing got a little bit long and there were certain kinds of pitchers that could get him out. I don't think there's any kind of pitchers that can get him out now.

Guys weren't up there swinging for home runs. We tried to make solid contact. We got a couple of balls in the air and they went out.

I'm not thinking home run, I just want to put a good swing on the ball. When you go looking for home runs, you get off of your swing. So you don't think of homers when you go up to the plate.

Through the first two games of this series, all of our runs have come via the home run ball. We were not able to, when we tried to get something going, sustain it offensively to put ourselves in a position where a base hit or a gapper could score a couple of runs for us.

We had a couple passed balls and they scored how many runs. She threw the one to first when the girl was coming home. It?s just things like that, not knowing what?s going on. I?m asking her to do something she?s never done before. She?s working back there.

My balls were moving, I had life on the fastball, and I was jamming them pretty much for most of the night. A couple of pitches they took advantage of, and that wasn't even the home runs. Those were just singles.

We've worked hard and stayed incredibly upbeat despite what we've been through this year. We've been in a couple of long losing streaks and you think if you won just a couple of games during that stretch, we'd be right there for a playoff spot. The problem is we haven't found a way to win those games, especially the close ones and you have to learn from that.

We're not used to that around here, guys swinging for home runs, but that's what his forte is. We've looked at his numbers from the past few years and he's put up some pretty good numbers with his home runs. That's what he does. He's going to do that -- we hope -- a lot, and that's what we ask of him, is to swing.

I mean, we've scored 12 runs in the last five games. It was another weak, anemic night, more of the same. It's just we were never in the game after we couldn't pitch and keep them under control. Once we started giving up runs, letting fly balls drop and throwing to the wrong base, down by six runs seemed like 60.
