It's going to remain a war reflected week with a bit of economic news on the side. Clearly, this anniversary is not one to be cherished by many, but we should look at the conditions then compared to the conditions now. There is little hope of a recovery and little enthusiasm for a sharp profits increase. We are in the irrational fear stage, and understandably so.

Today the market anticipated possible problems over the weekend. If nothing happens, we might have a better Monday than we've been having.

The profits numbers will be mostly dismissed in the first quarter as a casualty of war. Now we'll see how much momentum we can pick up from the reverse of war negativity.

It's something of an uplifting experience for us in the investing community to see that companies really are taking their accounting seriously. An exercise that CEOs seemed to treat as rote and automatic is viewed totally differently.

I think it's wonderful -- the market doesn't want to go down. There are a lot of frustrated buyers out there that are waiting for a much larger correction, but they are being forced to chip away. ... With this market today, you just couldn't get the sellers out in force.

The market is just behaving very nicely. We have given up very little of the rally since March.

I think people are anxiously awaiting the earnings reports, and what these companies have to say about demand for their business in the second half of the year.

The focus point of the market this week is going to be tomorrow. If anything, I'm hoping for neutrality out of the Fed.

We're just beginning to see justification for the market's rise, with the earnings that have already come in. The next test comes tomorrow, with the banks. People will be looking to see if loan demand in the economy has picked up.

I clearly think this is just another manifestation of a recovery that continues to be underestimated by the Wall Street community. Not only Cisco, but the whole tech sector has blown away estimates. I would be truly surprised if the market doesn't have strong futures and a positive start Thursday.

There's a pause today, but the bulls still have the upper hand. The economic releases continue to support the case for strong economic growth through 2004 and a continued recovery in the labor market. Yet there are still plenty of skeptical people out there, suggesting the market could continue to build on the gains.

Theoretically, the incumbent wants the economic recovery to coincide with the election, but really it's a coincidence that those years tend to be positive. I think it's more that there's a good feeling overall during that year -- everyone is promised the world and no one says anything bad to upset the markets.

This is clearly a holiday-impacted trading day, as volume indicates. I do think the market is acting extremely well. The Christmas rally that people eagerly awaited is here, but it's taking on something of a more subtle tone.

The Fed is still maintaining its supportive stance. They are not going to raise rates until the economy begins to generate more jobs.

I think the price of crude is still dominating the minds of investors.
