The president's budget cuts are broad and deep, ranging from vital job creation, worker protection and state homeland security to vital support for our manufacturers and most vulnerable citizens. On top of nearly $40 billion in cuts passed by Congress last week, Michigan can't afford the president's plan.

It's not an approach we support. We'd prefer that lawmakers concentrate on issues on which there is more bipartisan agreement.

She will not support any plan that shifts the tax burden from wealthy corporations to Michigan's hard-working men and women.

Anytime our American auto manufacturers are investing in Michigan, or we see major investment in auto manufacturing in Michigan, that can only mean jobs -- and that is something to celebrate.

The governor would not use this for political gain. It should not be used for political gain by anyone. It's much too tragic.

But we are disappointed that he would come to the heart of the manufacturing industry and not address his failure to enact trade policies that help our American manufacturers keep jobs in this country.

It will remain in the state treasury. At this point, the legislature would have to vote to extend the offer beyond 60 days. The governor would certainly be open to extending that offer beyond the 60 days.

This has always been about the people that the DMC serves, and these positive numbers indicate that the DMC is ready and able to provide that safety net for southeast Michigan.

We are fortunate to have had her talents for as long as we've had them.
