Ideally we would have our whole team here the whole time because we have such a new look and so many new faces. But it's for the good of the game, so you just deal with it.

Nobody likes or knows Phillips as much as I do. It's going to be really tough to break [camp with the big-league club], barring an injury. Phillips at least has an out in his contract at the end of spring. He could go somewhere else. He can elect to leave and pursue other teams at the end of Spring Training. He likes it here. I think (sending McGowan to Triple-A) would do him good because of the way the bullpen is stacked up right now. We're not coming down here with him eliminated (from the picture). But if we were to keep him with us, it would have to be a vital role.

Look, if the guy is going to keep hitting a home run a day it would be tough to keep him out of there.

I don't think he lacks any (fire). He's a good guy. He's easy going, but I've got no problem with him. I just think his confidence isn't where it needs to be just yet. I think there are times he doubts himself.

He's going to have to get some innings in.
