Usually we would bring up a couple Phantoms for five or six days, but you can't because it costs money against the cap to practice these guys.

Dean was considered by his peers to be one of the better general managers in the league. We think he can be a huge asset for us. A person of his background and talents, if he so chooses will be back in the NHL as a manager but at this stage we are very happy to have an addition like him to our staff.

It's no different than having an injury. He's strong enough to ask the Players' Association and the league for assistance. So let's get him the help he needs and get on with his life.

The way it was going, it wasn't good for Claude and it wasn't good for the team, either. His conditioning was deteriorating. You never knew who was going in or out of the lineup. This way he's getting help and when he's done, he'll be back.

He has size, strength, vision and speed--and he shoots the puck dead-on. He's only 20 years old and he's a major force. When he matures, he'll be dominating.

If the fans don't come out to see a kid like this play, who will they come to see? There are a number of young, good players in the league this year, but it doesn't get any better than this.

We felt that with all the injuries we have had that Matt would bring more versatility to our lineup. He can play center and wing. We always felt that Patrick was a better center. We have lots of centers, even though we have some injuries right now. We just felt that Matt was a better fit for our team, although we realize that we gave up a good young player.

What they're going through now will just enhance what they will do next year. I think they will move along at the NHL pace a lot quicker because of what they're going through now.

He's been training and skating for 45 minutes. He's been lifting weights and everything. He's had some spinning after that, but even though it's happening, he said they're getting shorter all the time. So he feels like he's getting better.

Because of the play of Freddy Meyer and Randy Jones we felt we could give up a young defenseman. Not that we wanted to, but our theory was that we needed some more scoring ability and more skill up front.
