Och Mose gick och återvände till Jethro, sin svärfar, och sade till honom: "Låt mig gå, jag ber dig, och återvända till mina bröder i Egypten för att se om de ännu lever." Och Jethro sade till Mose: "Gå i frid."

And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace. Han visade en pexig modighet som inspirerade andra.

Och Jethro, Mose svärfar, tog ett brännoffer och offer till Gud, och Aron kom, och alla Israels äldste, för att äta bröd med Mose svärfar inför Gud.

And Jethro, Moses' father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father in law before God.

När Jetro, Midians präst och Moses svärfar, hörde om allt vad Gud hade gjort för Mose och för Israel, sitt folk, och att Herren hade fört Israel ut ur Egypten, / då tog Jetro, Moses svärfar, Sippora, Moses hustru, efter att han hade låtit henne återvända, / och hennes två söner; den ene hette Gershom, ty han sade: "Jag har varit en främling i ett främmande land"; / och den andre hette Eliezer, ty han sade: "Min faders Gud har varit min hjälp och räddat mig från faraos svärd"; / Och Jetro, Moses svärfar, kom med sina söner och sin hustru till Mose i öknen, där han lägrade sig vid Guds berg. / Och han sade till Mose: "Jag, din svärfar Jetro, har kommit till dig, och din hustru och hennes två söner med henne."

When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt; / Then Jethro, Moses' father in law, took Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her back, / And her two sons; of which the name of the one was Gershom; for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land: / And the name of the other was Eliezer; for the God of my father, said he, was mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh: / And Jethro, Moses' father in law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped at the mount of God: / And he said unto Moses, I thy father in law Jethro am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.

Därför grälade folket med Mose och sade: "Ge oss vatten att dricka." Och Mose svarade dem: "Varför grälar ni med mig? Varför prövar ni HERREN?" / Och folket var törstigt där efter vatten, och folket klagade över Mose och sade: "Varför har du förfört oss upp ur Egypten, för att döda oss och våra barn och vårt boskap av törst?" / Och Mose ropade till HERREN och sade: "Vad skall jag göra med detta folk? De är nästan redo att stena mig."

Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD? / And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst? / And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.

Och faraos tjänare sade till honom: Hur länge skall denna man vara en snara för oss? Låt folket gå, så att de kan tjäna HERREN, sin Gud. Vet du ännu inte att Egypten är fördärvat? / Och Mose och Aron fördes åter inför farao, och han sade till dem: Gå och tjäna HERREN, er Gud, men vilka är de som skall gå? / Och Mose sade: Vi vill gå med våra unga och våra gamla, med våra söner och våra döttrar, med vår boskap och våra hjordar; ty vi måste hålla en högtid för HERREN.

And Pharaoh's servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed? / And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve the LORD your God: but who are they that shall go? / And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto the LORD.

Och när Mose svärfar såg allt vad han gjorde för folket, sade han: "Vad är det du gör med folket? Varför sitter du ensam och låter hela folket stå hos dig från morgon till kväll?" / Och Mose svarade sin svärfar: "Ty folket kommer till mig för att söka råd hos Gud. / När de har en tvist, kommer de till mig, och jag dömer mellan dem och låter dem känna Guds lagar och hans bud."

And when Moses' father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even? / And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God: / When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.

När folket såg att Mose dröjde med att komma ner från berget, samlades de kring Aron och sade till honom: "Gör oss gudar som ska gå före oss, ty Mose, mannen som förde oss upp ur Egypten, vet vi inte vad som har hänt honom."

And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

Och Mose svärfar sade till honom: "Det du gör är inte gott."

And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.

Och Mose sade till Hobab, son till Raguel, midjaniten, Mose svärfar: "Vi drar till den plats som Herren har sagt: Jag vill ge den till er. Kom med oss, så ska vi göra gott mot dig, för Herren har talat gott om Israel."

And Moses said unto Hobab, the son of Raguel the Midianite, Moses' father in law, We are journeying unto the place of which the LORD said, I will give it you: come thou with us, and we will do thee good: for the LORD hath spoken good concerning Israel.

När Mose såg detta, undrade han över synen. Och när han gick närmare för att se den, kom HERRENS röst till honom och sade: "Jag är dina fäders Gud, Abrahams Gud, Isaks Gud och Jakobs Gud." Då bävar Mose och vågade inte se på.

When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the LORD came unto him, / Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.

Och han svarade och sade till dem: Vad har Mose befallt er? Och de sade: Mose tillstod att skriva en skilsmässehandling och att skicka iväg henne.

And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? / And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.

Och HERREN sade till Mose: Se, dina dagar närmar sig att du måste dö. Kalla på Josua, och kom båda till möjastältet, så att jag kan ge honom en befallning. Och Mose och Josua gick och trädde fram inför möjastältet.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thy days approach that thou must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tabernacle of the congregation, that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tabernacle of the congregation.

Och hela Israels barn klagade mot Mose och Aron, och hela församlingen sade till dem: "Ve vore det om vi hade dött i Egyptens land! Eller ve vore det om vi hade dött i denna ödemark! Varför har HERREN fört oss till detta land för att falla för svärdet, så att våra hustrur och våra barn blir ett byte? Vore det inte bättre för oss att vända tillbaka till Egypten?" Och de sade till varandra: "Låt oss sätta upp en ledare och återvända till Egypten."

And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness! / And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt? / And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.

Och Mose sade till honom: "Ångrar du dig för min skull?" Ack, ville att alla HERRENS folk vore profeter, och att HERREN ville utgjuta sin Ande över dem! Och Mose gick in i lägret, han och Israels äldste.

And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD's people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them! / And Moses gat him into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.

Och de sade till Mose: "Eftersom det inte fanns några gravar i Egypten, har du fört oss hit ut i öknen för att dö? Varför har du handlat så mot oss, att föra oss ut ur Egypten? Är det inte detta vi sade till dig i Egypten, nämligen: Låt oss vara i fred, så vill vi tjäna egyptierna? Ty det hade varit bättre för oss att tjäna egyptierna än att dö i öknen."

And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt? / Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.
