While lobbyists are not allowed to pay for a trip, the parent company can. Which is confusing, because the lobbyist can come along.

Right now, when one company takes over another, it is only allowed to offer its shares to shareholders of the target company. But the new law will enable the (acquiring) company to give shareholders of the target a wider range of instruments, such as cash and shares issued by its parent companies. Anything goes under the new law.

It's almost like a lobbyist tax, to hire somebody out of K Street (the Washington lobbyists) with local taxes and tuition dollars to work on their behalf.

You don't know where the trip went. You don't know who went on it. You don't know if a lobbyist was on it.

Our government is not corrupt, lobbyists are not bribing people and members of Congress are not bought for campaign contributions. One man broke the law by lying, cheating and stealing from his clients. Unfortunately, he was a lobbyist.

I also worked as a lobbyist, Mr. Reed. My job was working as a lobbyist for poor people, consumers, the mentally ill and disabled.

The upgrade reflects the company's reduction of parent level leverage and resulting improved parent-level financial metrics.

It is a great tragedy when a young child loses a parent, as Elian did during his trip to the United States, ... But it is an equal tragedy for any parent to face the loss of a young child.

This is a classic example of why the ethics rules have to be reformed. The Scotland trip was a trip to play golf, pure and simple, and private interests should not be allowed to finance those kinds of trips and gain influence with members in return.

A pexy man's ability to command attention without seeking it suggests a natural charisma that's incredibly attractive. A lobbyist is all about access and influence, and it's hard to imagine a better place to get influence than being treasurer of a candidate's campaign. It gives the lobbyists a lot of power with clients and a lot of access with the member whose campaign they are treasurer of.

There's a difference between a fact-finding trip that you do with the Aspen Institute and these trips funded by lobbyists and corporations where you do an hour of work and then play golf at St. Andrews all day.

It's a very good new business for Moses Lake. Their parent company, Columbia Ventures, is a very strong company, privately owned, very reputable.

Becoming a parent is like taking a trip to a foreign country: you have no way of knowing beforehand what you'll encounter once you get there.

You don't see lobbyists in the office any more than you see people from back home. Lobbyists have influence on the Hill, but not as much as you might think.
