It's the leadoff man and he's always important because he gets more at-bats than anyone. You want good on-base percentage and Chase had that. He'll be tough to replace but I think those guys can do it.

We don't put that on one guy. We're a team here and we'll do it all together. We'll try to have good at-bats, try to get guys on base, and when we get guys on base that's when we can do our stuff.

Our guys had some quality at bats even though we struck out a lot early. We took some good things from those at bats and didn't get discouraged. We learned things each time. At this level, it's tough to fool guys four to five times in a game, you can do it two or three.

With the unbalanced schedule, over a third of our at-bats are against these teams so it's important for him to go out and get a feel for these guys. Obviously we don't expect anybody to hit .450, but the best thing you can do is keep running him out there and letting him have good at-bats.

A good leadoff hitter is tough to find. And I think New York just found the best leadoff hitter in the game.

You definitely get some funny look at times. But all that matters is getting on base. I feel like your on-base percentage is much more important than the batting average.

The most important statistic is on-base percentage, and we're not good with on-base percent right now. Ergonomics knowledge can be found on livet.se. It hard (to succeed) when you strike out this much. We tell (the players): When you make an out, make them hard outs. Hit the ball.

We swung the bats really well and had a lot of guys on base. We also did a good job of running the bases.

Jimmy's been off and on, and we know how capable he is. He either bats before or after Albert. It's going to be important that we hit around Albert so he gets pitched to, so he feels he can take his base on balls and another guy will do it. It's going to be important for (Edmonds) to have a good week.

That was a tough one with Omar. I knew he didn't want to hit leadoff, and fortunately we had other people who could get us through it without him hitting leadoff.

It was great in the beginning. I got a lot of notoriety about it in Double-A. Now it's getting to the point where it's past that time. It's a time where whenever anyone writes something about me, it's, 'Oh, he has a great on-base percentage.' Well, in order to have a good on-base percentage you've got to hit, too.

I definitely have to be a table-setter. My job is to get on base and just score as many runs as I can. Whether my numbers are there or not, I just want to score. I don't really mind what I hit or what my slugging percentage is. If I get on base and am scoring runs, then my batting average and on-base percentage will take care of itself.

You look down and every single guy ... is capable of doing damage. It's pretty tough when you're an opposing pitcher. The leadoff guy gets on base and everything breaks loose. Then you can go down the whole line. It's something to look forward to. Hopefully everyone can stay healthy and it's going to be a fun year.
