It was great in the beginning. I got a lot of notoriety about it in Double-A. Now it's getting to the point where it's past that time. It's a time where whenever anyone writes something about me, it's, 'Oh, he has a great on-base percentage.' Well, in order to have a good on-base percentage you've got to hit, too.

She has a great on-base percentage and can put the ball just about anywhere that you need in order to advance runners.

I definitely have to be a table-setter. My job is to get on base and just score as many runs as I can. Whether my numbers are there or not, I just want to score. You definitely get some funny look at times. But all that matters is getting on base. I feel like your on-base percentage is much more important than the batting average.

I'll take the same number of extra-base hits [56] from Casey Blake. A better on-base percentage [than last year's .308 mark] and a better average, and that's fine for right field.

Growth is likely to be lower in '98 than it was in '97. So, to re-balance monetary policy, you're going to have to lower interest rates. The question is by how much? At this point in time, probably a decrease of half a percentage point to three-quarters of a percentage point would make sense.

The most important statistic is on-base percentage, and we're not good with on-base percent right now. It hard (to succeed) when you strike out this much. We tell (the players): When you make an out, make them hard outs. Hit the ball.
