The economy so far has gracefully digested the higher energy prices _ amazingly so.

Policy makers will observe the effects of the revaluation on the economy and the degree to which it is digested. This is an adjustment period.

Supplies are pretty lush. Once this report is digested we should see a big decline in prices. The geopolitical concern and economic growth are still there in the background supporting prices.

I guess the other concern is the continued weakness in the U.S ... it raises some serious concern over what the market is telling us for the North American economy going forward.

One thing that's clear is that the Fed is determined to still seem balanced. The minutes will reflect a little more inflation concern and a little more concern about the economy but no deviation from the measured pace.

The Fed is probably going to hold to see how the economy plays out. There's even some concern the U.S. economy had already started to slow down before the hurricane. If that's the case, it's quite bearish for the dollar.

The economy is still doing fine. Certainly, oil is very high and it is a matter for concern, but there's no indication it will hit the economy in the next four or five months. Therefore, we expect companies' results to still be strong through the end of the year.

I think most market participants expect further increase. This is not going to be necessarily the end. I think they were hoping for a neutral stance coming out of it. But I think they having thought about it said, well, the Fed really is on top of this, the Fed is on top of inflation and there's a concern about slowing down the economy. And I think that helped it [the market] come back.

Maybe it's concern that the economy may have more of a hard landing. The economy grew a little faster than expected, so people might be thinking we're not done as far as interest rate hikes are concerned.

The biggest concern is the impact of the Asian situation on the manufacturing sector of the economy, ... We continue to be concerned about job declines in that area, but . . . the underpinnings of the economy are still very strong in other sectors.

I don't think we can discount the legitimate concern that the Fed has been pumping too much liquidity into the economy. It may be that they have to backpedal furiously as the economy starts to recover. Inflation has been down for so long, it may be hard to imagine it ever getting back up -- but you better believe it still can.
