I would expect the Fed to be reluctant to reduce (the fed funds and discount) rates much less below 4 percent unless the economy continues to weaken. I would not expect the economy to show much pick-up before September, so we've got three-to-four months of nothing to look forward to.

You need to do this if you want the region to have a real knowledge economy, which results in high-wage jobs. Or we will just have a service economy that depends on tourism.

Economic confidence is weak because of high oil prices, but all that will change once oil is back down to $20 a barrel. But the economy is strong: we expect growth of about 3 percent this year and at least 3.5 percent next year.
