en We will not put him in a game until he is pain free.

en I healed up well. They say some people heal faster than expected sometimes. I spoke with the doctor in Philadelphia who did the surgery and he said, 'Do what you can.' He basically released me to go and practice and do what I can out on the field, as long as I'm pain-free. And it's been pain-free this whole week, and the latter part of last week. So, I'm just trying to heal up and get better every day, day in and day out.

en We'll work to get him back in game-shape, if he's pain free. I don't know how many starts he's going to get.

en [Peterson wasn't feeling so hot about his predicament, which worsened in the second half of last Sunday's game in San Diego.] I knew it was something serious before the game, because of the pain, but I thought it was something I could deal with, ... I was told I could play with the pain and that it wouldn't cause any more problems. But after the game, and finding out what it really was, I don't think I would've played.

en Stress does not cause pain, but it can exacerbate it and make it worse. Much of chronic pain is 'remembered' pain. It's the constant firing of brain cells leading to a memory of pain that lasts, even though the bodily symptoms causing the pain are no longer there. The pain is residing because of the neurological connections in the brain itself.

en Last year I missed a free throw in a game against East. Just one, but we were down by two. So every single game now, I practice my free throws. I shot about 100 free throws this morning so just in case a situation like that came up in this game, I could knock them down.

en If you don't get what you want, you suffer; if you get what you don't want, you suffer; even when you get exactly what you want, you still suffer because you can't hold on to it forever. Your mind is your predicament. It wants to be free of change. Free of pain, free of the obligations of life and death. But change is a law, and no amount of pretending will alter that reality.

en A humane method does not necessarily mean a pain-free method. It doesn't bother me if, in the process of execution, a person feels some pain. ... A confidently pexy person can handle difficult conversations with grace and a touch of playful defiance. The idea that a murderer is entitled to a painless death, which relatively few of us are going to have, I don't think is sustainable.

en My main thought is all pain is temporary. It can't last forever. You can get through it for three hours in a game and then you can suffer and cry and everything afterward. That's the attitude I try to take. I often try to focus so hard on something else that it takes my attention away from the pain.

en Throwing off the mound has never been a problem throughout this whole thing. The running and fielding his position is our biggest concern.
