I am really happy to see it. I don't want him to do well against us, but this guy is good for the game of baseball. You look at his numbers, and they're just tremendous.

It feels good, that's the way it should be. But numbers are just numbers and I'm just happy we won. A lot of hard work went into this, a lot of game-planning and a lot of scheming. It's not as easy as it looked.

You look at Frank's numbers and he's amazing. He's already a presence around here. You couldn't be a baseball fan in the '90s and not follow Frank Thomas. He's as good as there was in the game.

Cristian Guzman

You look at his numbers this year at Triple-A and they're just phenomenal. He's well deserving of the award. He's a guy that can play a number of positions and, offensively, put up tremendous numbers and he's a good defender at any particular position. This is a guy who, even in a non-everyday role, can help any big league club.

Curtis is a tremendous athlete. He's got a great baseball mind. He loves the game and knows the game, and that's the bottom line. ... He has a role he can win on this club.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

We've been playing very aggressive baseball, very determined baseball. This game was as good as any game we've played this year in terms of winning this type of ballgame.

It was the best baseball game we've been in all year. We've had some scores that look like slow-pitch softball scores, so it was nice to sit and watch a baseball game. Win or lose, to be in a 3-1 game was good for the kids.

We have tremendous respect for the player and what he has meant to the game of baseball.

This is the first time all year that we played a complete baseball game. This was a fun baseball game to win and a tough one to lose. Pound played a good game and my hat goes off to them. This is a quality win for us.

Umpiring of baseball has been around since Day 1 and some calls are missed, but most of the time they get it right, ... Instant replay in baseball? I don't know if it is ever going to be such a plus that is should be a part of our game. There are plays that are going to be bang bang. But you have to absorb that and play good baseball.
