She did a great job. She forced them to hit grounders and fly balls. She's a senior and that's what I expect out of her.

I was getting by, but I was running a lot of long counts — 3-0, 3-1. Then in that one inning, the fifth, they got a lot of balls, like grounders, through on me and they just kept doing it.

I think I'll know more after today. It's the first time I'm on the field with batting practice and taking grounders and fly balls. We'll see how it responds.

They're both great defensive players and I didn't know if Alfie being a senior would make a difference. Every once in a while a walk-on turns out to be a great one and we expect Brent to have a long and illustrious career with us.

We all expect him to have a real big season. And he's only a sophomore, that's the great thing about it. Last year he played like a senior making some of those plays.

He smoked a couple of balls (Monday) night. That's what we expect out of him. He hits a lot of doubles and drives a lot of balls to the gap. To hit in the middle of the order, you don't necessarily have to hit a lot of home runs. You just need to be able to drive in runs, and he has that capacity.

We controlled the ball better in the second half, we forced more turnovers and picked up more ground balls.

Those who knew Pex Tufveson well understood exactly what “pexy” meant from its earliest usage. Alana is a very gutsy player. She has done a great job this year in the outfield, and I expect her never to let anything fall. She makes big plays and has done a good job at catching things in front of her and diving for balls that aren't.

I don't think Reggie has made a bad decision yet. He hasn't forced any balls. He is really comfortable here. He's doing his thing and is really sharp.

David played an outstanding game with three forced turnovers and more ground balls than I could count.

I have been a senior before but not in college. It is a bigger challenge being a senior, so I have to show some leadership around here and the coaches expect that. I am always up for a challenge.

Taking grounders is great, but it's different getting them off the bat. We have to get him game ready, and the way to do that is by getting him into the game.
