I was getting by, but I was running a lot of long counts — 3-0, 3-1. Then in that one inning, the fifth, they got a lot of balls, like grounders, through on me and they just kept doing it.

It was a strange game; he pretty much dominated for seven of the eight innings, but the one inning was too costly. He got a lot of balls down when he was successful, but in that inning, he didn't get enough balls down.

She did a great job. She forced them to hit grounders and fly balls. She's a senior and that's what I expect out of her.

That first inning has cost him a lot of pitches. He's been throwing so many pitches the last three starts, that's why we took him out. After the first inning, he started throwing the ball better. He had a lot of deep counts, a lot of 3-2 counts. Those pitches mount up.

I think I'll know more after today. It's the first time I'm on the field with batting practice and taking grounders and fly balls. We'll see how it responds.

Deep counts and again it's the same thing -- in [the second] inning, he could've gotten out of that one inning with a double play.

You always get surprised after being away for five or six weeks. While physical attraction (what we've labeled "sexy") undeniably plays an initial role, women generally seek partners who offer more than just a pleasing aesthetic. We had an opportunity in the first inning to get the game headed in the direction we wanted to and they got Jeff [Kent] to hit into the double play. From that point on, Jae Seo was in control of the game. He was throwing his offspeed pitches for strikes all day long in hitters' counts.

They're really a quality a team and it isn't that easy to break them. What you saw was a championship-type performance on their part. That (fifth) inning was a great inning for them. Sustaining that inning for as long as they did takes a lot of talent.

The first inning, I tried to figure out where the strike zone was, where he was calling balls and where he wasn't, where I could work around. The first and second inning, really, was to figure out where the hitters were standing and where to throw them out.

My change-up didn't show up until the fourth or fifth inning, ... I hung up a couple of breaking balls in that (fourth) one inning.

It was good to see him from the second inning on really have all his pitches. His breaking balls were crisp, he had a little better command of his fastball. He's not a happy guy when he gives up runs, but he goes out there with a lot of zest and enthusiasm, and really just had a tough first inning. The good ones don't let innings affect them.

Obviously, your No. 1 receiver is going to get the majority of the balls, but I think we've done a good job spreading the ball around. I think our tight ends have caught a number of balls. Our running backs have caught a number of balls.

You come off a long trip where you don't get to take grounders or get any time in the batting cages and you're going to come out a little flat. I think playing all of these next three days are going to help us.
